Dick Clarke, Violins Etc founder

Dick Clarke, proprietor of Violins Etc, has been trading and repairing violins and other instruments since opening his original store in Stockbridge, Edinburgh back in the 1970's. A keen musician, he established this website some 15 years ago, aiming simply to provide a local source of good-quality, affordable instruments with workshop back-up.

Since then things have grown a little. We offer, with confidence, a complete restoration service for all strings. Repairs we do here in Scotland but more intricate restoration work is carried out by Robert Blaszauer in Budapest. We hand transport valuable instruments whenever possible, fully insured. You can visit Robi's site here or view his fine viola d'amore in our gallery.

Owing to the global over-supply of 'handmade' student violin outfits, we no longer offer entry level instruments, concentrating rather on mature violins of merit and new instruments by individual makers known personally to us.

Thanks for looking in. Please don't hesitate to get in touch...we're approachable and keen to help you find the right instrument at a realistic price. Interesting part-exchange offers (violin family, good guitars, wooden flutes, concertinas etc) are always welcome.
