Virtual Singers Showcase (original songs only)

BDT

Making bits and bytes sound good...
I think it would be useful to create a separate thread for original songs so others can see what is possible with the current virtual singers.

This will help new or future users decide before they buy, and original songs will automatically exclude tools like Praat that give a false illusion of what the singers sound like.

To keep this thread readable, please only finished songs, no works in progress. And please NO discussions about the quality (or lack thereof) of a song or how things are done. If you like a song, there's a "Like" button. If you have questions, PM the poster. If you think the question is of public interest, open a separate discussion thread.

Feel free to delete (or tell me to delete) this thread if you think that's not needed/wanted.

I'll start with Synthesizer V Natalie (BG vox by Eleanor and Solaria):

In this video I have put music to Emily Dickinson's poem "A Cloud withdrew from the Sky" which is sung by the wonderful voice of Natalie. I created the composition with a mixture of analog and digital sounds from my modular synth and an acoustic guitar, trying to combine the classic with the modern as I always do in these videos. The poem is about the loss of something valuable represented by a cloud that disappears from the sky. The author laments that the cloud and everything it represents have been lost forever. The poem reflects on the idea that some experiences are fleeting and lost forever unless they are captured through memory or contemplation. The poem also suggests a search for transcendence and eternity as a way to overcome the loss of what is precious and valuable. I hope you enjoy this combination of synthetic sounds and poetry, and if you have any questions or curiosity, feel free to comment. Greetings!

These have been shared before on the original thread, but that's now so long that new users might have missed them.

The Sky Beneath My Feet

Solaria is the lead, with Weina used for background vocals.
I didn't share the SynthV project files for this, because it used an earlier workflow where I had multiple instances of SynthV, but if anyone would like to dig into them, send me a message.

The Same Sun Shines On Everyone

Solaria lead, mostly with Natalie harmonizing, Weina and Kevin added for choruses.
The SynthV project file for this is attached.

I never consider a song finished, but here is a "current" version of an original with Natalie called When That Day Comes. Words by Tom Gibson, music and production by moi. I have posted it before on the original thread, so apologies to those who have already heard it. I have made some improvements, at least to the mix, I think. Still a couple of stray notes to be brought into check, but getting there...

That is very good! The piano playing and orchestration are excellent. If I were to comment on anything related to the voice, it'd be that she's a bit buried in the mix, until around 5:15 when she's a bit exposed. And in a couple of places I would actually like to hear more of her infamous vibrato!

I'm still in the gobsmacked phase with SynthV. This is the second of my previous Vocaloid songs I just felt obligated to redo with it. Natalie and Solaria.

If anyone is interested in the tuning:

With this one I was trying to pull back Natalie from being too perfect. Other than taming the vibrato some, I pulled her off-center of several pitches here and there and tried to make her struggle a bit.

Thanks @BDT for creating this thread. There's some great talent here, and it's always a bit nerve wracking to dare to share your original music with anyone, especially a bunch of nitpicky musicians on a forum. I've listened to everything here so far and think you all have great talent. I just can't believe how much faster you are at writing music than me. I'm still working on my own SynthV original, but I'll try and post when I'm done. It's nice to know that original music isn't dead yet.

Well, the notes for my most recent project (not yet released) show that I was writing the harmony and melody in mid-November last year, started the Logic project for it on December 13th and it's only just at the point where I'm completing mixing and getting feedback. So that's at least three months per song!

A short exercise in Spanish, just for fun. Everything (Harmony, lyrics, idea, melody, arrangements) done in ~4 hours, I could not finish the 2nd half and there is a lot of pending work (cleaning phonemes, substitute instruments, cleaning arrangements, solos, mix). But it is incredibly easy to sketch to write songs!

The trick to use Solaria or Kevin in Japanese + the JAP --> Spanish dictionary is a good starting point. Results are only acceptable, voices are accented... but there is no solution given that there are no singers with proper phonemes. Now I know Japanese cannot cover them. I know that English and Chinese cannot do it either.

These tools are incredible!

New Solaria original. One of my favourite albums that I've been listening to since the 1980's, is Quincy Jones The Dude. On this track, I tried to go for an arrangement that might fit on an album like that. So, this is Trampoline. Lyrics by Tom Gibson, and the rest from me.
Vey nice (again)! A song that really suits Solaria.

EDIT: NEW VERSION AT THE SAME LINK (slightly revised mix and some tweak on Ninezero voice)

An ongoing (metal) project with Ninezero and Solaria (lyrics in the link)

Honestly I am still not convinced by NineZero, maaybe I just have to find it's suitable range and style.

This is a very old song which missed the vocals at that time, and now i am trying to finish with these awesome new technology.

The lyrics were also written with the help of chatGPT, I am very poor in writing! :D

mix in progress, maybe I have to add some synths here and there.

old version here:

Nice, but I have to admit this only further confirms my view that I do not like Ninezero. Solaria and all the other components of the track sound great.
