Recordings for legacy purposes

Hello.
I am an intermediate composer and have been for some 13 years. I have approx 27 tracks which I have uploaded to my Soundcloud account.
As I am now in my 60s, I feel I would like to leave a non PC version of my music for my grandchildren after I have passed on.
Is there a company that could put my tracks on to a physical CD and provide a CD cover with text? Clearly, going back to a CD version might be thought of as retro by some. What alternative could I think of? Who could provide a streaming album? I am only a hobbyist, therefore, I have a restricted budget. Just putting it out there for any ideas. Thank you.

Couldn’t you just burn a CD yourself? Or maybe a couple of them? Most modern PCs don’t have optical media players anymore, but there are cheap external units out there.

As for streaming: maybe check out Distrokid or a similar service? There must be “budget solutions”? Or create a family website and embed an audio player with your songs on there?

While CDs are not extinct (yet), most younger folks I encounter (I'm in my 60s too) don't buy or utilize CDs anymore, and if they do, they rip the tracks to mp3s. Looking further into the future, it's unlikely CDs will even be a platform for music delivery anymore.

If you want to hand them something physical with your music on it, you might consider a USB stick (thumb drive). Not only can you load your music onto it, you can also include photos and text documents for liner notes, and even video files, if you have them. It would make a nice memorable packaging of your legacy.

If you search on Amazon, you'll also find some innovative USB stick designs. There are even ones carved out of wood that are in the shape of musical instruments. Something like this would make your legacy gift even more memorable.

Good luck!

This is an excellent idea!

@packhorse you should work on this now and give these USB sticks away as birthday or Christmas gifts. It’s not that expensive to do and your younger family members would be able to archive these files for the next generation.

Many thanks for this. A great idea.

This is something I'm considering as well. I have tons of unfinished music on the computer, plus a finished solo CD I recorded in my 20s that I don't know what to do with. No grandkids, but it doesn't feel right not leaving something behind (like a cave painting). On top of putting it out on YouTube or whatever cloud, something I'm considering is getting the best stuff mastered and then a small batch of vinyl records made. Ironically, vinyl has outlived the CD.
