OPUS | Ryuichi Sakamoto | Directed by Neo Sora | Official Teaser (2023)

Love his music and been thinking about his approach a lot. From Yellow Magic Orchestra to one of my favorite soundtracks "Derrida", Sakamoto just amazes me with quality and diversity. Thanks for sharing

Wow, what an amazing piece! From electronic, experimental to orchestral, his range was incredible. I heard he would come back from a trip to Borneo (doing field recordings) and party a techno/ house music club days later. Sorely missed 😥

Truly, I think he was one of the greatest of our time
This anecdote definitely sounds like him! From Thousand Knives and YMO, to The Last Emperor or High Heels, without counting async or his piece for the opening ceremony of the Barcelona Olympics... So diverse and such a brillant mind. The documentary Coda is a must-watch for anyone's interested in his work imho

For me, Sakamoto shows that experience, travel, falling in love, death, other art, diverse music listening determine the nature of the music we make. As hard as we all work to get better technically, what makes our music unique probably has more to do with the life you live than how well you mastered basso continuo or identifying tone rows.

Just wanted to share the love. His death has hit me harder than any other musician in my lifetime. And fellow band-mate Yukihiro Takahashi left us just months earlier as well.

I too love his range. Even just YMO goes from darkly experimental to absurd nonsense - I loved their humour, not really fitting the "Japanese Kraftwerk" tag. The Japanese version of their Multiplies album is gloriously bonkers, filled with comedy sketches in both English and Japanese, and there are musical nods to new wave, ska, disco as well as the more expected synth-pop. His solo work is also extraordinary - his work on The Revenant was about the only thing I loved in that movie.

I've spent whole days just watching the many different live versions of A Thousand Knives on YouTube. Totally obsessed. I loved the documentary Coda where he was battling cancer, looking forward to seeing Opus when it's available here in the UK.
