The two-piece back, ribs and original neck are of well-figured maple, the belly of fine spruce or pine. Condition is excellent...some wear to the back from an ill-fitting shoulder rest and a small crack above the left f-hole, properly repaired. The oil varnish, not too thick, is of a beautiful golden amber colour on a pale ground.
