- I'd seriously recommend leaving the expansions for what they are and spending $100 voucher on something else.
The expansions are a nice addition, but I found after having a Sonicpass subscription for over a year, that I'm not using the expansions at all. I did some demos to showcase some and use one piano patch from LoFi Dreams from time to time, but that's it. I get a lot more out of Falcon on its own, Vintage Vault, the Quadras, Percussion Factory, Synthology, Drum Designer, the different key instruments and the effects stuff like Whoosh etc. I'd check some YouTube vids and spend your money there if I were you.
I’d pick Synth Anthology 4 as it’s around $100 on sale now.
I agree with Fleer & Marcus. Plenty of excellent presets included in the factory library + SA4 is great. I have most of the expansion but never use them.
I "needed" to get an expansion to maximise the ROI from my Falcon voucher by tipping the BF discount to 50% by getting 3 products.
I settled on LoFi Dreams, as it brings 4GB of content to the table, which seemed to offer more value to me than all the others, most of which don't exceed 500MB. If any of the others had offered a style that I felt inclined to reverse engineer, that wasn't covered by the factory library, I might have thought differently.
I should point out that I've only had Falcon for 3 weeks, and I don't have any other expansions to compare it to, but if you're the type of person looking for content to build from, rather than presets to tweak, then its worth noting that LoFi Dreams has at least 5 times the content of any other expansion, and about 10 times the average.
Fair point, well made.Cinematic Shades and Titanium both are (over) 2GB and the three Simon Stockhausen ones are over 1GB each.
Let me know what you think of them when you've spent some time with them.In the time between when I posted and when these responses were posted, I had gone ahead and purchased expansions
I am not at all well-versed with synthesis and creating my own sounds so I figured the more presets available to me the better so I went with the expansions
I ended up getting 5 expansions packs (since the BF sale discounted them further)
The 5 packs I purchased were:
- Cinematic Shades
- Kinetics
- Organic Arps
- Organic Pads
- Voklm
I've only gone as far as Layer level so far, tweaking 88 keygroups is a bit daunting for a bear of little brain like me! I love that it's possible to "prepare" each note within a layer, but unless there's a way of grouping keygroups within a layer, I'm more likely to use a layer for each flavour I'm looking for, and trigger notes from layers as appropriate. Not a problem for most cases, but it would be nice to be able to use per voice distortion without having to create one for every note required!Quite interested in getting the Quadra’s next. Anyone tweaking the samples in Falcon?
As far as expansions go you could've done worse. The Organic Aeps and Pads are nice and Voklm will get you some nice vox choices. The 5 packs I purchased were:
- Cinematic Shades
- Kinetics
- Organic Arps
- Organic Pads
- Voklm
The quadras are as much about the rhythms as they are about the instruments. I actually never use those sounds as a sound source for a patch in Falcon, but will add some of the Falcon effects or scripts on top of the ones in the Quadras. They are wonderful for rhythms and pulses. I like the fact you can layer electronic and acoustic patches right from the interface. Same goes for Augmented Orchestra, which is basically a Quadra with orchestral instruments.Quite interested in getting the Quadra’s next. Anyone tweaking the samples in Falcon?
