Atomic batteries to power! Turbines to speed!
I always thought this was a beautiful song, but the full emotional impact didn't hit me until I learned the backstory. Briefly... a young 20-something Jackson Browne was recording in England in the early 1970s, and staying at a vacant house. A young woman was also temporarily staying there, and over the next few days, she and Browne became close. But soon, she left to travel to Morocco, and Browne never saw her again.
The song is a beautiful expression of those deeply meaningful but fleeting encounters we occasionally have in life, especially in our youth when we're wide open to all possibilities. Plus the scenario has a very late 60s/early 70s vibe to me, that I find quite nostalgic, and when I'm in the right mood, this song can bring a sentimental tear to my eye.
