Keep displaying threads created by members on ignore list

Ignoring doesn't necessarily equals hating. I see it more like streamlining or optimizing the browsing experience. It's just that some people tend to talk more than needed or fanboys can be annoying to others liking.
I don't think the Ignore feature was intended for the purpose of muting legitimate members because you don't like their posting style. (You can use it that way, but as you've discovered, you'll miss parts of conversations if not entire threads.) It's intended to mute spammers and trolls.

In my eight years on VI-Control, I only put one member on Ignore. He didn't post anything worth reading, ever. He was a new member and a troll who joined just to toss grenades into controversial topics. Within a few weeks he was gone anyway.

But I typically have over a thousand threads on Ignore at any given time. It makes a lot more sense to mute the conversations I don't want to see than to mute the people who start them.

Those are really, really bad reasons to put someone on Ignore.

It's certainly true that some people post way too much, and yes, I suppose there are fanboys out there. But many of those same people also post very valuable info.

Sadly, I think this sort of misuse is way too common (FWIW there are 11 people who have me on their Ignore lists), and makes me even more tempted to eliminate the feature entirely.

Fascinating how different we all are. I'd have never anticipated some of the view points presented here. To me it was just about tuning the ignore option and make some lives easier. Don't you like using tools like denoisers or a TV remote control? The brain itself mutes and skips all day, it's totally natural.

Granted, your 6 months and 14 posts on the forum makes you much more of an expert on how the forum should work than the rest of us. Unfortunately, though, the silly old-timers are in charge here.

But many of those same people also post very valuable info.
That's the price i'm willing to pay
Wow.

A. Apparently it's *not* a price you're willing to pay, because you started this thread. Remember? Which forced me to get dragged into all this, for what I thought was a sincere request from someone who might have at least a little humility.

B. That's a really disrespectful thing to say, that you're perfectly fine with ignoring valuable info.

I don't think this forum is a good fit for you.

Sometimes I just have enough of people who post a lot.
Then it's nice to have the option of putting them on Ignore Member for a while.

Another use for me is on people who pretty much only use the forum to self-promote their Youtube page via posting frequent "Reviews" and so on. But never, or hardly ever, take part in the regular forum life with discussions, tips, questions etc.

Yes, I think a good option for ignore would be one that automatically expired after a period of time (two days, a week, etc.), since I tend to use it as a temporary measure but sometimes forget to reverse it.

If a member is targeting you with unsolicited harassment or spamming a thread, report them and throw them on Ignore. But if someone's posting style annoys you, for goodness sake, it only takes a few milliseconds for your brain to tell your eyes to stop reading their post and skip to the next one. The Ignore Member feature is total overkill in these situations. It streamlines nothing because it leads to potentially missing out on valuable information, and information is the lifeblood of this forum.

If you're putting people on ignore because a thread devolves into what you consider to be mindless banter, you always have the option of unwatching that thread by clicking this handy button at the top of the page.

I mean, people differ in how well they can do that, they really do. And people who have a hard time with it will use the features available accordingly. Doesn't really matter what they're meant for.

Regarding valuable information, my guesstimate is that roughly 20% of the members generate 80% of the information that interests me. They are the reason why this is the only forum I'm coming back to in the last couple of years. So if it increases the value of my personal experience here, I'll use the ignore feature without hesitation. Although I've been more relaxed with that recently.

How is that misuse? Wait, why am I seeing your posts?!?
In all seriousness though, ignoring the owner of the forum maybe shouldn't be possible.

But so does skipping to the next post, which you suggest as an alternative to Ignore Member.
Before you decide to skip a post, of course you'll first take a moment to scan it for anything worth reading. And if a post you skipped might have led to an interesting turn in the conversation, you can always go back and read skipped posts more thoroughly. If the member is on Ignore, you won't have either of those luxuries.

Everyone is welcome to use any and all forum features however they want to, but results will vary depending on how they use them. Personally, I don't want to use the forum with the potential of new conversations of interest being hidden, so I choose not to ignore anyone.
