Discussion Thread for 8dio Flash Sale Products

I'm also fighting the urge to pick up the Insolidus + Silka bundle...
yeah ... I don't often need choir, and when I do I don't tend to feature it ... and I've definitely spent more on choirs than I've earned with choirs, so getting more choirs doesn't seem to be smart financially for me.

I'm wondering if it's any improvement, both workflow-wise and sonically, to Anthology/Agitato.
In that thread, I posted about my experience of Claire. I don't think any of my concerns were addressed. So, even though I know it was probably a lot of work to port them over and I respect the work they're trying to do, I (personally) do not expect any improvements whatsoever in the ports based on my experience with the Claire woodwinds. In fact some of the mic position stuff and the workflow changes from Kontakt are actually worse in Soundpaint, on top of the huge disk space required.

Good to know. I just bought the 8Dio Claire stuff awhile ago. They sent me a discount code for Soundpaint's Adastra Chamber Strings but the email doesn't say anything about how long the coupon code lasts.

I have the same experience. I got into 8Dio/SP with the SP flute as my first instrument, but I picked up the Claire bundle last summer when it came on sale. Feels easier to use.

On Soundpaint the Dunescape UDS is probably what I am going to get for my next games soundtracks I will be working on after having finished the first two (now working on the games, soundtracks for both completed months ago).
The Adastra Ensemble Bundle looks good too there so I might get that if they ever give a discount code for that.

I already got the Insolidus+Silka bundle. I am tempted to get the Majestica Ultra+Lacrimosa. My only doubt is if those would get discounted even more later on because the discount on Insolidus+Silka is higher as a bundle.

Got an email from 8dio telling me to buy now as they are going to be increasing their prices, not sure how worked up I can get about that

Obviously, so they can put on even steeper discounts ...
Like I said, they have dug themselves into a hole that can never be climbed out of because of how badly they have devalued their product.

Aside from the odd sucker (or new person) here and there who doesn't understand 8Dio...the revenue stream is dead with the exception of more continuous crazy cheap flash sales.

I have some of their libraries and enjoy using them, but as has been mentioned above their product set has been substantially devalued and no matter what low price they claim they are selling for today you can never be sure they won’t drop even lower tomorrow.

It's similar to the gaming industry. These libraries go back to Konakt 5. It's like those video games developed during the W7 era are often under $20.

I think it's also a change of strategy toward soundpaint and cheaper, more hybrid aesthetics.

Which is a great pity. A children's choir version of Insolidus/Silka would be amazing. And if pros are will to pay something close to full price for the benefit of being early adopters, it would certainly have been worth it, and further would have helped cover the development costs so that those of us who would happily buy it a couple of years later around the ~$200 would also benefit.

I mean, I'm delighted to get Silka for $30. But I think, on balance, I would rather there have been a viable business model to create more such libraries.

But it's also a turn towards embracing their strengths in hyper aggressive marketing. Which honestly, sound paint and hybrid is probably more amenable to anyway.

A couple of years ago, I'm pretty sure I watched a video where Troels said the cost of Soundpaint development was well into the 7 figures (correct me if I'm wrong). I would think that it could be pushing 10 million by now. I believe 8Dio has no money left to produce Kontakt libraries. I certainly don't have access to the books, but I can't see them breaking even on Soundpaint yet....if they ever will. Their abandonment of Kontakt libraries (which for the first 2 years of Soundpaint they denied they were abandoning Kontakt) says to me that they are pretty much broke.

Yeah. And businesses need to focus. And they clearly care about the vision of soundpaint, which I expect will really serve a lot of people's music very well. So this is fair enough.

But I'd have loved more libraries continuing the vision of Insolidus and the Claire.

Easier how?
It's been a while but as I remember it, I had to configure CC1 or CC11 (don't remember which one now), and disable SP's built in effects that were enabled in the factory presets. And keyswitches weren't a thing (maybe they've added that now to SP though?). I don't need the sound designy patches.

And while not "easier", a big factor for me is the smaller file size of the Kontakt versions.

Oh the Kontakt versions were easier. Got it. For some reason I thought you were saying the Soundpaint versions were easier.

Do we have any information how wide the key registry is for Adastra violins? say, c4 to c6 or where about?
