Another Plugin likes Waves "Torque" ?

Those alternatives on that “Waves equivalents” blog post are nothing like Torque. I have ‘em all, and Torque is really something special and unique. PSP HertzRider is basically a cleaner, digital, Bode frequency shifter, with similar results to Logic’s stock Ring Shifter plugin. Cool and useful, sure… but Torque is super targeted to re-tuning the sustained, pitched component of a drum sound without affecting the transients. It’s pretty crazy what it can do.

I used it a bunch during the making of Spitfire’s Hammers, and recently on a remix I used it on a full mixed rock live drums stem (!!!) and got amazing results in a few seconds.

If anyone does find a similar plugin I’d love to know what it is….

@Sid Francis Maybe you could come up with a two-step solution: There are several tools nowadays which allow for the separation of the transient components from the sustained tonal parts of a signal (Sonible's "frei:raum" comes to mind, or Eventide's "SplitEQ", maybe even Oeksound's "Spiff" ... I'm sure that there are others, too, in the meantime). Re-tune the sustained part only, and combine it with the untouched transient section.

... this won't give you the identical functionality as Torque, but the main effect should be achievable.

Eventide's Physion mkII might be a path towards a Torque replacement... it's more general-purpose and not as focused on drum sounds as Torque, but it will let you separate the transient and sustained components of a sound and apply different effects (including pitch shift) to each. I was wrestling with it before I discovered Torque which was a perfect solution for what I was doing.

Curious if Melda's MDrumStrip might be a good alternative. Though with all things Melda it's neither inexpensive or easy to use.

Tell your friend that if he really wants Torque, he should just use Torque. I get some of the Waves hate, I really do, but they have a lot of great plugins, so why sacrifice productivity for... what?

I have Torque and I'm not aware of any other plugin that does the exact same thing and as easily or quickly.

It might be able to somewhat achieve what Torque is doing by using a combo of other things, but that sounds like a huge pain in the butt, not to mention a workflow killer and waste of time, not to mention that the final results will most likely not be as good as what you could have gotten using the original plugin for a few seconds.

In my opinion, too many people put up self made, imaginary obstacles when doing music.

Wait, Hammers isn't 100% analogue before being transferred to digital at the very last moment in the process? Nooooooo! I demand restitution! Maybe a signed photograph of you for, er, a friend...

@Charlie You are right, Physion is HAMMER but I found it always too expensive, he will probably think similar. By the way; I am really asking for friend :) . He´s not on the forum...he´s my boss ;)
