What's new

Hello Again. Back after a looooong time

I've out of composing and away from these forums for many years, but I'm starting to write again and remembered how valuable all the folks here were to me and the community.

I'll be updating my semi-aging sample libraries over the course of the next sixth months and will have tons of questions, I'm sure.

So thanks in advance and belatedly for all your rapport.

M.

Thanks, Fever. First order of business is to get my composing computer back in order. That might cost a bit. Hardware has changed as has Windows. Samples, as I left them, are pretty good with lots of Vienna, LASS and Berlin Strings and East West Hollywood Strings and Brass. New those libraries pretty intimately so hopefully it will come back — like riding a bike. Mostly wrote orchestral and chamber music.

I’m sure I’ll have lots of questions — especially technical and library related.

Definitely hunt around for all of the posts that several of us have done regarding PCs if you are thinking about building. We ended up with so many threads on every aspect of building a PC you'd think this was a Gamer site. 😂 One thing for sure, if you have PC questions, strap in, you'll get answers!

Thanks, PaulieDC. Currently using my last build (good processor-wise but only 32 GB RAM). Will be building with new motherboard and case and 128 DDR 4, adding a new 4 TB sample drive and reusing processor, graphics, power supply and liquid cooler and other drives.

Glad to be back.

I work in the semiconductor industry, we supply silicon to chipmakers including Intel, so we get to see the market needs 6-12 months out. After the big global chip shortage settled, prices dropped and components have been crazy cheap. At first we thought all of 2024 would remain in that pattern, but the tide is changing, 2nd half of 2024 is starting to show increased demand and the low prices we have enjoyed since Q3 2023 will start disappearing, it's already happening with SSDs. So I would take advantage of this particular point in the industry's lower level and buy your ram and 4TB drive now. Samsung is already hiking prices to recoup what they knew they were going to lose when prices dropped, but Lexar and Crucial are still in that sweet spot, more or less. This does apply more to M.2 NVMe drives, I haven't looked at regular SATA SSDs, they may stay low since they are on their way out and demand isn't there anymore.

Hopefully can rebuild in a couple of weeks.

Solid intel, thanks so much!
